Who You Are

We are seeking a Payroll & HR Operations Specialist to join the Critical Start Technologies Private Ltd. team, operating under the Critical Start umbrella, for our India operations. This person would be responsible for managing end-to-end payroll processing and support essential HR functions. This role requires advanced expertise in statutory compliance, Excel, and HR Information Systems (HRIS). The selected candidate will also oversee employee data management, collaborate with vendors, and conduct reporting and audits to ensure accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.

What You Will Be Doing?

Payroll Management:

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processes, including data collection, validation, processing, and reconciliations.
  • Prepare and audit payroll reports, ensuring accuracy and timely disbursement.
  • Ensure statutory compliance for payroll-related activities, including PF, ESIC, PT, and TDS filings, adhering to local laws and regulatory deadlines.
  • Conduct monthly and year-end payroll activities, audits, and reporting.

HR Operations:

  • Maintain and update HRIS data, including employee personal and payroll details, organizational assignments, and other records.
  • Coordinate background verification (BGV) for new hires, including vendor collaboration and report validation.
  • Support onboarding processes, including document verification, system updates, and employee data accuracy.
  • Collaborate with the Admin and HRBP teams to ensure smooth delivery of employee services, including onboarding kits, employee letters, and exit formalities.

Reporting & Compliance:

  • Generate and analyze regular and ad-hoc reports for payroll, compliance, and HR operations as required by management and stakeholders.
  • Maintain adherence to compliance standards by preparing, reviewing, and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct internal audits and collaborate with external auditors to verify compliance in payroll and HR records.

Advanced Data Management & Reporting:

  • Utilize Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, complex formulas, VLOOKUP) to generate insights from payroll and HR data.
  • Contribute to creating monthly reports to support decision-making for HR leaders and stakeholders.
  • Analyze payroll metrics, identify trends, and recommend improvements for payroll processes and HR service delivery.

What You Will Bring?

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in payroll management and HR operations, with hands-on experience in statutory compliance and payroll processing.
  • Proficiency in Advanced Excel, HRIS systems, and experience with HR compliance tools.
  • In-depth understanding of payroll processing and statutory compliance in India.
  • Familiarity with auditing practices, data management, and HR record-keeping requirements.
  • Strong capability in managing datasets accurately and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Proficiency in data analysis to identify trends, gaps, and areas for process improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written skills for effective coordination with vendors, stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Proactive in identifying payroll or HR operational issues and implementing effective solutions.

Mental and Physical Requirements 

It's important to note that specific physical and mental requirements may vary depending on the nature of the office job, organization, and individual responsibilities. 

 

Physical:  

  • Stationary position for extended periods of time. 
  • Constantly operate a computer.  
  • Occasionally you may be required to move equipment or other items up to 20 lbs. 
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. 

 

Mental:  

  • Must be able to apply established protocols in a timely manner. 
  • Make timely decisions in the context of workflow. 
  • Ability to complete tasks and perform in situations requiring speed deadlines, or productivity quota. 
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in high stress situations. 
  • Ability to simultaneously address multiple complex problems.
